Great jacket, well built, well featured - colours a bit misleading
I originally ordered a North Face McMurdo parka (which was significantly more expensive) but when it arrived it didn't feel well made in several areas for the price... Neck zipper region, filling, hood etc.
I read some other reviews and decided to order the Marmot Shadow jacket. I thought the green one would be good but had trouble finding it online in the UK. Eventually I got it and I sent The North Face jacket back for refund.

This Shadow jacket is great in lots of ways. Well made, nice features, top quality down filling and (apparently) waterproof - though I have yet to test it out in anger.
It has all the hall marks of a quality jacket and you can tell it's been well designed and well made as soon as you put it on.

The only issue for me is that when I got the green it looked a bit different from the website in shades. No big deal I thought.. I'll just send it back for a black one, they're more common anyway.
So (after days of expectant waiting...

Should be great but lacking
First this is a well made jacket. However there are a number of points which let it down. First the goose down I am sure it is fine goose down. But it is severely under stuffed, paper thin at key points. Like the area around the mid back. This means it is not as warm as it should be. I have worn it on a +1 windy day and had to go back home to put on a thick woolly jumper.
I do not think it would stand up to skiing or mountain hikes in colder weather, which I understand it was designed. for. The thin Velcro wrist fastening is flimsy and the lack of the inner cuff as on most winter jackets, means if like me you have smaller wrists the wind gets in.

The hood is an awful design the toggle to pull the hood tight is in the centre at the back. Which if you have the jacket on, you have to be a contortionist to adjust it. Even if you do this, placing the pull in the middle at the back means you pull the hood away from the face, not tighter around it . And end up with a Smurf...

Why I brought

Just so you know the angle I'm coming from with my review, I brought the jacket specifically to use whilst running. Normally I wouldn't wear a waterproof for running but for longer training runs of 2+ hours it's a huge benefit. Also a waterproof is compulsory for many 50 and 100 mile races.

I haven't owned this Jacket for very long, but what I have experienced so far has been very good.

The Fit

I'm 5'11 and slim and went for the medium as I like to have space for layers and also air flow under any jacket is key for breathability. The fit on me was relaxed but not 'flappy'. Arm length was just about right with the velcro fastenings doing a great job. The hood is well designed and adjustable.

Features

This jacket is very light, the fabric feels thin but not delicate and of the really lightweight jackets I've felt this one really feels quite substantial. My medium tips the scales at just under 300...

This is not the coat from the gadget show
Im about to buy this coat as it seems like a cracking coat for the money, but it is not the coat featured in the test a while back where it was tested against a fire hose. That coat was the gelert westcott. For some reason it's not for sale which is a shame as its a much better looking coat. If you search for gelert westcott you will find a pic but sadly it out of stock

Too Big
Received thisincorrect size on my original order but amazon sorted this out within two daysand sent the X small that i ordered. 5 stars to them. The helmet is great, really comfortable and i also ordered the red Earphones to go with it to have tunes on the piste.
Hopefully this should last as well as my old Kiddies Cebe Helmet (luckly this Hifi in X small is a very nice fit)
Fits great with my Electric and Smith goggles too.

Missus seems happy
My missus and I looked at quite a few helmets. These have been a good choice; her main perogative was that they were pretty plain and kept her ears cosy; all went well and no complaints. Not the cheapest but very good quality. I would consider a male version of this helmet.
