A little more specialized than advertised
Firstly these boots do what they are intended to do brilliantly. On packed snow & ice I feel completely secure in my footing. They are not crampons of course but if you want to feel a little bit safer in a nasty British winter they are excellent.

However, these are single purpose shoes. Advertising for Icebug has implied that the rubber elements with protect non-ice surfaces with the spikes only coming into play on ice. This is not true. Any indoor surface will be quickly damaged these boots and the grating of metal on pavement becomes unpleasant after only a few steps; hardly the "completely civilized" of the product description.

If you are looking for a single pair of winter boots, these are not the answer in Britain, they are too specialized. However, if you can stretch to these as an extra pair, they make the recent weather a lot more tolerable and safer.
