Excellent walking boots
I bought these a month ago to replace some inferior Karrimor boots whose waterproof qualities only lasted a few months. Several friends have lower-end Grisport boots and swear by their comfort levels and quality, and taking size 13 I had to consider looking outside the traditional good boot brands. First impressions were that these are tough boots, and as expected they took a little walking in before the leather softened up a little, the soles and heels were very stiff at first. A couple of winter munros later and the comfort levels increased rapidly, and after 8 significant walks in them now they are really quite comfortable. The vibram grip is good as expected, and as they are quite high they are nice for keeping feet dry on walks where I don't use gaiters. All in all they are progressing perfectly, I will amend this review in a few more months when I see how the build deals with heavy usage.

I can't recommend these boots highly enough!! i clean wheelie bins for a living so my footware gets a really hard life!!! i'd hate to think how many miles i walk in a day and my boots basically get jet washed all day everyday!! i have destroyed certain so say high end

No wonder this backpack is getting so many good reviews in the walking magazines. It is superb. Light, sensibly designed, simple and comfortable to wear. I've tried quite a number of packs of this size by other manufacturers and this is the best by far. If you want lots of straps that you can't work out the function of then this is not for you.

Over hyped
I think this rucksack has featured in a few gear reviews in the 'walking' press mainly because Montane is a British company. The rucksack's very lightweight and has an excellent load bearing, comfortable and easily adjusted hip belt. However, for me that's as good as it gets.
It's got one long main compartment that doesn't form well unless it's full and then of course the thing you're looking for is always somewhere at the bottom. There's no frame so it sits close to your back with limited ventilation. The two elasticated side pockets are not zipped, will not protect anything stored in them and allow items to easily fall out and get lost. Some of the materials and construction looks rather flimsy to me and I have doubts about its long-term durability. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned its biggest fault is in fact the USP, the so called `Dual Tool'.
