No wonder this backpack is getting so many good reviews in the walking magazines. It is superb. Light, sensibly designed, simple and comfortable to wear. I've tried quite a number of packs of this size by other manufacturers and this is the best by far. If you want lots of straps that you can't work out the function of then this is not for you.


Over hyped
I think this rucksack has featured in a few gear reviews in the 'walking' press mainly because Montane is a British company. The rucksack's very lightweight and has an excellent load bearing, comfortable and easily adjusted hip belt. However, for me that's as good as it gets.
It's got one long main compartment that doesn't form well unless it's full and then of course the thing you're looking for is always somewhere at the bottom. There's no frame so it sits close to your back with limited ventilation. The two elasticated side pockets are not zipped, will not protect anything stored in them and allow items to easily fall out and get lost. Some of the materials and construction looks rather flimsy to me and I have doubts about its long-term durability. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned its biggest fault is in fact the USP, the so called `Dual Tool'. I'd really like to know how you are supposed to attach a trekking pole to this `multi purpose', elasticated confusion of plastic bits,...
