Bought one of these 7 years ago, It has accompanied me to beaches night fishing, multiple camping trips and parties in the garden. In a word "fantastic"! It has a good throw of light and the light control is excellent, I purchased a reflector and a case at the same time to prolong the life of it. I guess I have filled it a few dozen times so its probably done 200 - 250 hours on standard unleaded without a problem.
As the previous review states, it burns petrol or coleman fuel and should not be used in an airing cupboard etc but for use indoors and in a camping environment it is brilliant. Also I have not had to change the mantles yet.

Just be careful and you should be fine with this
Nowadays we are very seldom terribly far from electric lights, but if you did not have any electricity for any length of time then this is what you would want to have. It produces a lot of light, to my reckoning equivalent to about a forty watt electric light bulb, but at a relatively low running cost, it will run for hours on a tank of Coleman Fuel.

In contrast paraffin lamps and candles are fine, but don't actually produce much light.

There are however downsides to the lantern.

It runs on Coleman fuel (reasonably easy to get at camping stores) or unleaded petrol. But, if you have ever seen an accidental petrol fire, then you know how careful you need to be. Just getting an ignition source near petrol can be dangerous.

The lantern itself is expensive, but you do get a very solid piece of kit for that.

It runs on mantles, a bit fiddly to install, and delicate. You would not want to swing this about like an electric torch, but if...
