Details of the item Spyderco Stretch British ZDP-189 Racing Green FRN PlainEdge Knife

The Spyderco Stretch has changed over the years much like watching one of your kids grow up. What started as a small basic Hunter model in the 1980s matured/stretched into an elegant high performance drop point folder available in a variety of handle materials and blade steels. The latest is a lightweight model with a Brithish Racing Green FRN (fiberglass reinforced nylon) handle. The ZDP-189 modified drop-point blade is ground thin and fully-flat with an arcing belly, installing itself as a winner for outdoor endeavors and carrying everyday. Turned-out with a mid-spine positioned back lock the FRN handle is injection molded and surfaced with Bi-Directional Texturing® When the palm meets the texturing tactile resistance results, stopping in its tracks forward or backward sliding under harsh, wet or slippery cutting circumstances. The steel pocket clip screws into pre-drilled holes on both sides and both ends of the knife making four possible carry options: left/right-handed and tip-up...

  • 4-way clip.
  • Screw-together construction. Nested steel liners.
  • Phosphor bronze washers. David Boye Dent. Enlarged opening hole. Spine and choil jimping.
  • Bi-directional textured FRN handle.
  • Full-flat ground blade.

great edc-knive
I really like that knife. I got some other knives from Spyderco, a UK-Penknive s30v and a Delica 4. The stretch is my favorite because of its handiness and useful blade shape. The stretch is a very good slicer. Woodcutting and food prep are great. It's a tomato-killer ;-)
ZDP-Steal is very hard to sharpen and not as sharp as a perfect sharped s30v blade because of it's coarse grain-structure, but still very sharp. I'd pre-sharpened it with diamond pocket-sharpeners, which are laying flat on a table. Afterwards i used a Benchstone 1000/3000 from Naniva which was really effective because of the precise edge control over the whole blade. Using a Spyderco sharpmaker wash't that effective for me, don't know why. It's possibly not that abrasive for zdp-steal. Eventually the sharping angel control isn't that good to get a really good edge.
The blade was finished on a leathers trope with chromium-oxid.
In the result i got a harpness that was comparable to factory-standard, but...
